The characters are excellently portrayed.īut the action is primarily why you watch it. You can easily follow what's happening and still be entertained. As mad dog says, 'This is the Pulse.' Of a generation. A welsh director, an Indonesian cast, an unforgettable film that if you haven't seen yet you should make it a priority. The Cocaine Lab action sequence is my favourite scene as I remember clapping after it finished and when the final fight happened I forgot to breathe which may mean i have a low IQ or this was so good i forgot to do something i have done for a very long time. This film is exciting and a crowd-pleaser which is what I look for in a film especially for an action film. The Tower Block is a perfect location for an action film all those tight spaces as the Cops fight to stay alive as they are killed one by one by the inhabitants of the tower block. The music gets you every time and Iko Uwais is amazing not only does his character Rama look like he just wants to be home with his family but he never revels in the violence but he is so good at it. No thats not my mental age but its how many times I have seen this film and it still excites me not only because its one of the coolest and energetic action films I have watched but because it is one my favourite films of all time. A film that is simple the best example of an oriental fighting actioner that has ever been made. Acting is pretty good but not likely to win an Oscar. You don't need them or voice as little is said. It has subtitles but don't let that put you off.

There's little story to speak of and whilst that could be a problem for some films (not anything that Jason Statham is in I may add) the action, violence and utterly over the top martial arts makes up for it. From pretty much the start to the very end it's a balls-to-the-wall kung fu monster mash with added machine guns. However, that being said, there is no doubt at all that this film is a fight fest of extraordinary levels. I just think that the Judge Dredd film had a little more variation and 'colour.' than this one. However, where I differ from most is that I think the Judge Dredd film is the better of them, fully accepting that this film was more popular. There was a lot made of this film and the Judge Dredd one both of which came out at the same time being essentially identical.
